Sylt is a narrow sandbar off the Schleswig-Holstein coast reached by causeway train, and its hotels have long served northern Germany's most established summer clientele. Six ranked properties all hold MICHELIN Keys, four of them at two Keys, and one restaurant appears on La Liste. Sol'ring Hof sits behind the dunes at Rantum in reed-thatched Frisian style, and Landhaus Stricker occupies Tinnum with a serious kitchen attached.

The island's geography does the rest of the work. Severin's Resort & Spa is at Keitum on the Wadden Sea side, Landhaus Severin*s Morsum Kliff stands near the striated cliff at the island's eastern end, and Hof Galerie keeps to farmhouse scale.
