Samui's four ranked hotels all hold MICHELIN Keys, two of them at two keys, and they favour the island's quieter northern and western shores over its busiest beach. Six Senses Samui occupies a steep headland at Laem Yai with pool villas looking west across the water toward Koh Phangan, and Napasai Samui spreads low villas and gardens through coconut plantation above Baan Tai on the north coast.

Anantara Lawana sits at the quieter end of Chaweng, the long east-coast beach that carries most of the island's nightlife, while Kerem Luxury Beachfront Villas takes the private-villa approach. The interior remains largely jungle and waterfalls, with a coastal ring road connecting everything in about an hour and a half.
