Cotai is entirely reclaimed land between the old islands of Taipa and Coloane, developed in barely two decades into a dense run of integrated resorts. Five ranked properties all hold MICHELIN Keys, four at two Keys, and all five carry a Forbes Five-Star rating, one of the highest ratios in the index; two restaurants appear on La Liste. Morpheus at City of Dreams is the landmark, a Zaha Hadid exoskeleton tower with voids cut clean through it.

The rest lean equally hard on design authorship. Palazzo Versace Macau and The Karl Lagerfeld, both within the Grand Lisboa Palace complex, were fitted out under fashion-house direction, while The Londoner Hotel reworks Westminster motifs at resort scale. Cantonese and Portuguese cooking traditions overlap here in a way found nowhere else in Asia.

Where to stay in Cotai

Everything sits on the Cotai Strip itself, a walkable and largely climate-controlled chain of resorts linked by footbridges, with Grand Lisboa Palace and City of Dreams at either end; Taipa Village next door offers Portuguese colonial lanes and small restaurants, and the Macau peninsula across the bridges holds the historic centre and the Ruins of St. Paul's.

When to go

October to December brings the driest, mildest weather; Chinese New Year, Golden Week and Grand Prix weekend in November fill the strip, while the humid typhoon months from June to September are the quietest.
